Bergendoff Hall

Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois

The Music Education, Performance departments and Art History department at Augustana College had grown beyond the confines of their current spaces.  The music education department needed to expand its office area to meet its growing faculty needs.

  • Small/Intimate Performance Space (60 seats)
  • Large Performance Space (400 seats)
  • Expanded Existing Piano Lab
  • Ideation Lab
  • Multi-Media Lab
  • Expanded Art Gallery
The Challenge

How do we take a tired, mid-century building that had not undergone a significant renovation since its opening and update it with experiential rehearsal and performance spaces for both instrumentalists and vocalists?

The Solution

A refresh of the entire facility provided the campus with a like-new facility supporting the College’s approach to student recruitment and retention with multiple new rehearsal spaces and an intimate performance space with access to acoustically-tuned environments.

The College has seized the opportunity to infuse existing spaces with new enivronments that facilitate creativity and the expression of art.
